Acupuncture is one branch of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).  It promotes natural healing through the stimulation of specific points on the body.  These points lie on “invisible” energy pathways called meridians. In health, Energy called Qi (pronounced “Chee”) flows seamlessly though the meridians and our bodies.  When there is pain or disease, it is due to the  disruption of the smooth flow of Qi.  The meridians are connected to our organs and all  bodily functions.

The theory states that stimulating the points with acupuncture needles can release blocked Qi. The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points on these meridians stimulates the nervous system and causes the body to respond.  This response sparks the immune system, promoting circulation to the area and a release of chemicals or hormones which influence tissues, glands, organs, and various functions of the body.  The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities. Our bodies heal themselves!

Acupuncturists therefore help to move and balance the flow of energy.  Free flowing energy leads to physical and emotional wellbeing.  Physical and emotional wellbeing leads to a happy, Healthy Life!
